Motorcycle Head Injury - Sequel

During the year 1986, there were 859 persons killed within the state of California as a result of being involved in a motorcycle crash. The 1986 year was also the peak year for persons injured as the state counted 28,997 drivers/passengers as having received medical attention resulting from being involved in a motorcycle incident.

By 1998, these numbers had drastically dropped. Those killed during the 1998 year were 195 persons, and those injured were 6,242 persons. A number of successful prevention strategies have brought us to this point, including motorcycle driver training and mandated safety helmet use for all riders and passengers of motorcycles.

Since the peak year of 1986, these laws have resulted in saving more than 6,000 lives, and saving more than 200,000 persons from being seriously injured.
